Sewing pattern for Victorian clothes needed?
I’m not a sewer nor a historian. I’m looking for help from either. Does anyone know of a good Victorian style pattern. I need both male and female costumes.
“victorian” is quite broad; covering more than 60 years of fashion. It encompasses everything from late 1800′s leg of mutton sleeves to 1880′s bustle skirts to 1860′s hoop skirts… There are many patterns of 19th century fashions available in both men’s and women’s clothing. You can make anything from a prairie pioneer dress to Scarlett O’Hara ball gowns and everything in between.
Folkwear sells patterns for many different eras. The patterns are of excellent quality, not too difficult to make, and they are drafted to fit modern bodies. Here’s the site: http://folkwear.com/
Alter Years sells historic and ethnic patterns from all the specialty companies. They have the largest selection anywhere and should have what you are looking for: http://www.alteryears.com/ The site is under construction, but they should be able to help you.
Here’s a few free-for-the-taking patterns from the era: http://www.tudorlinks.com/treasury/freepatterns/index.html
And here’s a site where people post their results of using historic patterns. http://www.gbacg.org/great-pattern-review/
