Women’s sewing patterns?


Ok guys, I’ve been doing some research on women’s clothing patterns because I’d rather sew my own clothes than spend $80-$100 for a pair of pants I like or $90 for a simple shirt. The problem is I can’t find any good modern patterns, just stuff for plus size women, children, or patterns from the past. Can you guys help me score a selection of patterns that might be similar to what you’d find in Gap, Urban Behavior, Banana Republic or something of that style. Thanks all!

Have you looked at Burda and Marfy?

Look at silhouette — features like pockets and collars and hem lengths and fabrics are easy to change.

PS: “Women’s” means plus size in pattern-speak; you’re probably looking for misses or junior sizes. Very different body types.

Quoting from the Butterick size charts:
Women’s patterns are designed for the larger, fully mature figure, about 5’5″ to 5’6″ (1.65m to 1.68m) tall without shoes.

Women’s Petites patterns are designed for the shorter woman’s figure; about 5’2″ to 5’4″ (1.57m to 1.63m) tall without shoes.

Misses’ patterns are designed for a well proportioned and developed figure; about 5’5″ to 5’6″ (1.65m to 1.68m) tall without shoes.

Misses’ Petites patterns are designed for the shorter figure; about 5’2″ to 5’4″ (1.57m to 1.63m) tall without shoes.

Junior patterns are designed for the young adult figure, about 5’4″ to 5’5″ (1.63m to 1.65m) tall without shoes.
