I want to make a dress very similar to this one for Easter. I need to know if it will be simple enough?


I have sewn a little in my life. Everything has turned out very well so far. I think this dress looks pretty easy to make (I’ve made several quilts, so I know the piecing part would be easy). I can’t do ruching (never tried), so I would leave that part out. I don’t really know where to get a pattern like this, either, though it looks like a basic sundress to me. Any ideas? Am I going for something too difficult here?

Piecing quilts is relatively easy because you’re working in just two dimensions. The finished piece will be flat. The dress you’ve displayed requires a very high level of precision piecing so that all the points will match. And, you’ve got to make it fit perfectly. The skirt panels appear to be cut on the bias and that will give you lots of stretchy edges that need controlling.

I would give this one a pass until you’ve had more experience with tailored and fitted garments.
