I make jewelry and was wondering; whats the difference between Rocks, Minerals, Gemstones, Gems, & stones?

Minerals are natural non-living substances that have the same chemical makeup and crystal shape. A mineral’s color depends on what’s mixed in with it. Some minerals have metal with a metallic luster (how it reflects light) mixed in with them that causes them to shine. Minerals that don’t contain metals look dull.

The three different types of rocks are METAMORPHIC meaning being changed by heat and pressure, Ex _ Quartz Amethyst Coal

SEDIMENTARY made from sediment form millions of years that were pressed together. Ex- Limestone Sandstone and Jasper

IGNEOUS made from lava a volcano Ex- Obsidian Pumice

Gemstones is a mineral that is rare, durable, and beautiful enough for personal adornment. They have been trying to define what a gemstone is for a very long time. With no real answer. The price varies by color, clarity, tones and hues of the stone.

Gems and stones are the same as above with a different name.

I have been collecting rocks and minerals sense I was seven. I also use to make jewelry with the stones I collected. So good luck it is a lot of fun!!!
