Sterling silver earrings vs. silver plated which is better?

I am new at making jewelry and I made some earrings that I believe they were silver plated and turned my ear black. I am also looking to find online the best store to purchase findings and I have tried ebay for earring hooks and not found the best. Is anyone out there experienced in this field and provide some help?

Sterling is much better than silver plate, since the plating will wear off. As far as a good supplier for findings, I would suggest you get a copy of the Lapidary Journal at your local bookstore/magazine seller. There are a lot of good jewelry suppliers listed there. One of my favorites is Fire Mountain Gems. They have a great selection of beads and findings. Good luck to you!
You might also try Stuller, SWest, Rio Grande and Overnight Mountings for supplies, although you may need a special jewelers license to order from them.
