I need to sew a stretchy panel (maternity panel) in my work pants.?


I am a novice at sewing even buttons but they tell me at work how easy it would be although I am still clueless. I wear scrub pants and the waist no longer stays around my pregnant belly. I do not want to go up another size, as the scrubs I currently wear are already too baggy in the legs and buttocks. Any patterns, suggestions, ideas on material? I would greatly appreciate it.

The first answer is right….Any fabric store…like JoAnns sells the panels in about 3-4 colors….ususlly beige, black, dark blue. I don’t know about white or cream….And buy a seam ripper small one is good, and some sewing pins, needles and thread, and a cheap pair of fabric scissors..If you dont have a sewing machine you will have to do the stitching by hand
When you get it home…open it up…lay it on the center front of your scrubs. at the top of the waist… you need to pin the edges about 1/2″ from the edge of the insert panel…..Then carefully cut the scrubs in the shape of the panel…(Scrubs will be only good for being pregnant afterwards) Remove the panel and re pin turning the edges under and turn the scrub fabric under as well to avoid raveling…..Stitch it down with small stitches…about 14 stitches to an inch….should be good and sturdy….Good Luck
