Any places in Des Moines, IA that can make a bridesmaids dress from a pattern?

My best friend is getting married in May and she sent me a pattern for the bridesmaids dress she wants me to wear. I don’t sew let alone own a sewing machine. I am looking for someone in the Des Moines Area who might be able to sew the dress for me. Plus, it needs to be very inexpensive, like $200 or so.

Hello

Congrats to your friend :-)

Here is a list of tailors in Des Moines:

How to choose a Tailor for suits and dresses
People who want to have a suit or dress custom made or altered for them will often choose to hire a tailor in order to perform those services. When searching for and comparing tailors, you should look at a number of factors before making your decision. Has this tailor been highly recommended to you, and do you trust the opinion of the person doing the recommending? Does the tailor have a large amount of experience in creating and altering the types of clothes you need, such as suits or dresses? What is their availability and turnaround time? How much do they charge? Are they conveniently located? Choosing a tailor that meets your specific needs and requirements is important when having clothes custom made or altered for you. You should always look into a tailors background before hiring them. You should ask to see examples of their work and get the names and contact information of former clients. You should contact those references to find out if they receive quality service and the work was done on time. Since personal recommendations are often a good way of finding a quality tailor, you should ask your friends, acquaintances, or local fabric store employees for recommendations of local tailors. But don’t just go on a recommendation or reference alone. Make sure that they’ve been in business for a good amount of time and that they have experience working with clothing that is similar to what you want to have made.

Tailors will usually operate a retail storefront where customers can come to bring the garments they want altered or to have their measurements taken by the tailor. It is often required to make an appointment for a fitting or measurement taking, although during less busy times of the day, they may take walk in customers. When meeting with a tailor, they should be friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to discuss your ideas for a garment or alteration. They should be courteous and gentle during the fitting process and should be able to give you a clear idea of what alterations they will be doing, how much they will cost, and how long they will take. Because you with be working directly with your tailor to create a piece of clothing you want to wear, it is important to choose a tailor who takes your ideas into consideration. Because different tailors may specialize in creating and altering certain types of clothing, it is important to find one that has experience working with the type of clothing you want. Tailors may offer a variety of different services. Some may specialize in the alteration of garments, such as shortening or lengthening them, adding cuffs, narrowing pants legs, and changing necklines. More complex alteration jobs will often cost more than routines alterations, although you should always get an cost estimate before having any alterations done. Other tailors may have more experience creating custom dresses or suits for their clients. It is always a good idea to find out what services a tailor offers before deciding on them so that you are able to have the work done that you need. Hiring a tailor is often a great way for people to have custom dresses and suits made or altered, but it is important to choose a tailor that is experienced at performing the services you require.
