I run an online bead,findings,& jewelry shop. How do I become a legit Business?Please & Thanks?


Ok now a bit more info about my situation.
I sell beads,supplies,jewelry,art,collectables(all handcrafted) online & at local art & craft shows in Illinois. I have been selling since last year(2009 October),however I opened a new shop in January this year. I buy wholesale and resell it, make the jewelry and art myself and we are starting to do well in our shop.What do I need to do to make this all LEGAL? I am so confused when I research online. Do I need a State tax ID,do I Need a Federal Tax ID,A business liceans? I run this mostly by myself,my hubby only delivers packages to the post office,so I have no employees for now. Its all done at home in my office.My office is a gallery,work area,storage area(for products to be sold),this is where all my shipping materials,scale,Laptop,printer,files….are all at.

A business license is probably required in your town. If your state has sales tax, you should register your business with the state, collect sales tax, and remit it to the state.

You can, if you want, form a corporation or LLC. I assume that you are paying taxes on your income.

If you have a shop, you better get insurance.

If you start paying wages, and salaries, you better be registered with the state and pay all the appropriate taxes.
