What to use on a rosary?

I’ve recently found that I have quite a talent for making beaded jewelry and I have sold a few pieces such as lanyards and necklace/bracelet/earrings sets. I’ve gotten a request though, for a custom rosary a few times. I’ve researched online about making them and they have a fascinating history.

However, one thing I cant find is if it’s ok to use just simple cross pendants or does it HAVE to be a crucifix?

I’m very interested in this and thank you guys for any help.

I have seen them with a simple cross, even very old ones.
But I do think the crucifix is preferred, because the Rosary is, at least in part, a meditation on the passion of Christ.
