OK to give girlfriend anniversary gift made by a jeweler parent?

I’ve decided to get my girlfriend a pendant for our first anniversary, probably one with a sapphire or emerald. However as a college student the ones I can afford aren’t exactly top of the line.

My mother is an amazingly talented engraver and jeweler, and I know she would make a world-class personalized one-of-a-kind pendant for very cheap to free if I asked her too.

I want to get her the best one I can afford, but would giving her jewelry made by my mom be extremely awkward?

No as long as you’re putting thought into it, it’s the same as buying one and it’ll be beautiful; she’ll love it. A free & gorgeous homemade one is definitely better than a cheap crappy one that is the only thing you could afford.
